Assisting in Identifying & Diagnosing Diseases

Our practice is fully equipped to take radiographs (x-rays) of your pet. Our veterinarians will conduct a thorough physical exam and consultation to determine whether your pet requires radiographs. Radiographs are an essential diagnostic tool that can help us identify and diagnose diseases in animals.

Some of the common situations where we might recommend radiographs include:

  • Bone radiographs where we suspect arthritis or another problem such as a fracture or dislocation.
  • Chest radiographs in a coughing patient, or when heart disease is suspected.
  • Abdominal radiographs in a patient where an abnormality is felt during consultation, or in a vomiting patient.

Once x-rays of your pet have been taken your veterinarian will take the time to show you the images and discuss the results, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Often to take quality, diagnostic x-rays we will need to sedate your pet. The reason for this is most pets won’t lie still long enough, in the correct position, to take a good quality x-ray. Sedation allows us to get the best radiographs possible, which helps us diagnose and treat your pet’s problem faster.
